Hi, I’m Lou Blaser.
I used to be a happy corporate ladder climber, now a happy writer at We’re All Getting Better. I am also the host of the podcast Second Breaks, and the author of Break Free: The Courage To Reinvent Yourself and Your Career.
Here’s something else about me.
I’m borderline obsessed with dying happy. By that, I mean I want to live and experience my midlife — however many more Happy Birthdays I get to sing to myself — in such a way that I’d be happy and regret-free when the time comes and my number is called. Besides, who wants to be a curmudgeon in their old age?!
But this is a new obsession. This wasn’t even on my radar during the first half of my life. Those years were all about climbing ladders and achieving life ambitions that were expected of me. I’m still as driven as ever, just about other things now. And I’m also learning to be a better friend to myself as I work on these new ambitions.

After I was done climbing corporate ladders, I turned my attention to other interests: learning and writing. I study philosophy, mindfulness, Buddhism, and personal development from the perspective of a midlifer who wants to be the best version of herself, and then I write about what I’m learning in my weekly newsletter, We’re All Getting Better.
I love discovering people’s journeys and capacity for change and self-determination. I found a natural outlet for this curiosity through podcasting. In Second Breaks, I’m regularly joined by interesting people for conversations about midlife, life and career transitions, and all the fabulous ways we can get better as we get older.
I’m currently working on two (2!) book projects: one about modern retirement and one about building a new career in midlife. I’m sharing these works-in-progress as special segments of We’re All Getting Better.
